Dental Cleaning & Consultation

We all know that good oral hygiene keeps your teeth looking clean and shiny, but did you know that it's also essential to your overall health? It's true, poor oral hygiene can lead to a variety of dental and medical problems such as gum disease, infection, heart disease, stroke, and even diabetes. That's why dentists recommend that teeth be cleaned professionally at least twice a year. Teeth cleaning is the removal of dental plaque and tartar in order to prevent cavities, gingivitis and gum disease. The average dental cleaning is a routine procedure that is rarely uncomfortable and takes 30 to 45 minutes.

Sierra Dental Group specializes in and frequently performs a variety of dental cleaning procedures, so you can rest assured that yours will be performed by a skilled and experienced dental professional.

Sleep Dental Appliances

Oral appliances, also called dental appliances or devices, may be an option for patients who cannot tolerate CPAP. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends dental devices for patients with mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnea who are not appropriate candidates for CPAP or who have not been helped by it. (CPAP should be used for patients with moderate to severe sleep apnea whenever possible.)

Sierra Dental Group is trained to fit these devices. Patients fitted with one of these devices should have a check-up early on to see if it is working; short-term success usually predicts long-term benefits. It may need to be adjusted or replaced periodically.

Mandibular advancement device (MAD) - This is the most widely used dental device for sleep apnea. It is similar in appearance to a sports mouth guard. MAD forces the lower jaw forward and down slightly, which keeps the airway open.

Available Sleep Dental Appliances - Sierra Dental Group offers the finest sleep dental appliances available for mild sleep apnea sufferers. including the TAP 3, Somnomed, SUAD and EMA. While the most commonly prescribed solution, CPAP (continuous positive air pressure provided through a nasal mask), is often effective, it may not provide you with the solution you are searching for. Oral appliances are small, comfortable, convenient and medically-approved. Best of all, there's no tubing, no mask and no electricity.

Benefits of Dental Devices - Dental devices seem to offer the following benefits:

* Significant reduction in apneas for those with maild and mild-to-moderate apnea.
* Improvement in sleep in many patients.
* Improvement and reduction in the frequency of snoring and loudness of snoring in most patients.
* Higher compliance rates than with CPAP.
* Ensure a good nights sleep for your bed partner and ensure that you spend the night in the same room.
* Help prevent heart disease, sudden cardiac death, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, depression, memory loss and even erectile dysfunction.
* Help prevent driving and work-related accidents caused by the excessive daytime sleepiness related to sleep apnea.
* Provide an alternative for the 25 - 50% of people with sleep apnea who cannot tolerate or would rather not use a CPAP device.

About Occlusal Equilibration

inverness citrus dental dentist dds dmd practice

Occlusal equilibration is a term used in dentistry to discuss the adjustment of the bite relationship. When there is a discrepancy in the bite relationship to the full seated joints, then problems can develop. When these signs of instability are found during examination of your mouth, we then consider occlusal equilibration as a possible remedy. We can proceed with adjusting your bite relationship to re-establish harmony in the biting system. Establishing this stability in the system can prevent many problems that are serious in nature.

These Include:
1. Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD)
2. Muscle-tension headaches
3. Severe wear of your natural teeth, as well as loose teeth
4. Chipping teeth
5. Gum recession and other associated problems
6. Grooves forming on exposed root surfaces

If you have any questions, please contact us – we are here to help you understand your individual needs and why we are recommending Occlusal Equilibration.
